
Affirmative Practice Training
Rainbow Affinity offers professional development packages to support individual practitioners and organisations provide affirming and culturally safer services for LGBTIQ+SB folk.
Jack is a qualified Social Worker blending his Social Work experience within mental health and the drug and alcohol sector, with his lived experience as a man with a transgender experience.
The affirmative practice training has been developed with an overarching aim to strengthen the capacity and confidence of staff and services who are working to develop and maintain individual practices and organisational cultures that are affirming and safer for all LGBTIQ+SB folk.
Rainbow Affinity has 3 high-quality professional development packages to choose from:
Full day training (7hours)
Half day training (4 hours)
Foundational training (2 hours)

Full day Training Package - Duration: 7 hours
This is our recommended LGBTIQ+SB Affirming Practice Training Package and is tailored material to your unique organisational context. Attendees are immersed in a full day of learning, with plenty of time to ask questions and engage in extended facilitated conversations with Jack.
The following topics will be covered in the full day training:
What is Affirmative Practice and why it’s important
The history of LGBTIQ+SB people across the world
Unpacking and exploring the LGBTIQ+SB identities
Pronouns (what are they and why are they important)
Intersectional identities within the LGBTIQ+SB community and understanding how aspects of identity can influence multiple experience of marginalisation
Lived realities for LGBTIQ+SB folk and communities - contemporary research and data
The impacts of stigma, discrimination, disinformation, misinformation, microaggressions and minority stress for LGBTIQ+SB folk
Exploration into systems of oppression and dominant social norms eg. Heteronormativity, cisgenderism, neuronormativity
Introduction to discrimination and human rights (lets take a look at the Acts)
Adopting affirming language and providing an inclusive culture
Protective factors and tools of resilience for LGBTIQ+SB folk
Understanding Allyship
Reflective practice case scenarios unique to organisational context
All attendees will receive a certificate for taking part in Rainbow Affinity’s LGBTIQ+SB Affirmative Practice Training
Half day training package-
Duration: 4 Hours
This is LGBTIQ+SB Affirming Practice Training Package is tailored material to your unique organisational context. Attendees are immersed in a half day of learning, with some time to ask questions and engage in facilitated conversations with Jack.

Attendees are immersed in a foundational learning experience with Jack.

Pronouns (what are they and why are they important)
Adopting affirming language and providing an inclusive culture
All attendees will receive a certificate for taking part in Rainbow Affinity’s LGBTIQ+SB Affirmative Practice Training.
